RE: Who do you like?

Gauthier's RV in Lafayette, La. They were very fair when we purchased our 5er and the one time we had to bring it in in the last 2 years (for a slide motor) they scheduled an appointment for 8 AM and we were out in less than 20 minutes. They actually let me watch them replace it. Everytime we have called the service department with a question, they were extremly helpfull. Would I buy from them again. YES!

RE: Drawtite brake controller

Good decision. You won't realize the benefits of of great controller until you pull a few times with the one you have now. My DW even commented on why it took me so long to upgrade. My excuse was, I thought I had a good one.

RE: smoke smell

I don't know how you can get rid of the smell. We passed on a really nice used 5er when we first got into camping because of this same thing. I know why the price was so good. It was like a stale ashtray in there and I almost lost my lunch.

RE: Drawtite brake controller

It'll serve your purpose and probably fit your needs. I had one and went with the Prodogy. Night & day difference. Well worth the money for the Prodogy. I did run the Drawtite for years with no problems though. Just not as smooth.

RE: POLL: Weather Protection for RVs

I have an 18' X 41' X ~14 1/2' center boxed eve Carolina Carport with 6' drop down sides and back on a 20' X 50' concrete slab. I can put the 5er completly under it and open the slides and steps and still walk around it. I also ran power to it so that we could keep it plugged in all the time.

RE: New toy for washing Camper

If it would use the Dewalt 18V battery, I'd buy one in a heartbeat. Everything I have uses Dewalt 18V batteries and I have 5 batteries and 3 chargers. Darn!

RE: Closure of African American Camping Topic

I agree with you 110% and I made a couple of posts on the thread you are referring to. Instead of closing the thread I have a question for the Mod that closed it. Why not just delete any inappropriate responses?

RE: So if you lost your job................

A year and a half ago I was in your position. The company was downsizing, moth balling production units, moving peopla around, etc... They wouldn't tell anyone if they still would have a job. I had an office job as a Production Training Specialist. Started looking because I needed to maintain the same income or more. Sent out a resume to one company and the next day they called for an interview. After they expalined that 60% of my time would be traveling with some being international, I told them to consider someone else, not interested. The next company I interviewed for made a offer the same day that my old company made an offer to move me to the corporate office. I went with the new company for more money and a lot better benefits and now enjoy working for a growing company (refinery). I'll be able to retire in about 8 more years. I guess my point to all of this is, it's a lot easier to find a job while you still have one. Less pressure. If you choose to stay in the rat race, start looking now. Don't wait for them to let you go. BTW, my old company called 2 months after I left wanting to know what it'd take for me to come back. With out burning bridges I told them I'd like to see where this new company would take me. They said the door is always open. Always keep your options open!

RE: Paint your house purple

Here in Louisiana you would be considered just a 1/2 LSU Tiger fan. Needs to have some gold trim. In years past I've seen a few painted that way to settle a bet and was usually owned by a Tulane fan. Dave As long as the trim is in gold I don't see a problem with it. They have nurseries around here that will design purple & gold flower beds too.

RE: Any African American Families camping/Rving in Georgia?

No need to apologize to anyone. I knew what you meant in the original post. BTW, we have met families with different ethnic backgrounds while camping although they are few and far between as you stated. It seems that most have RV's for tailgating at their favorite college game and use the RV a few times a year to get away. Try attending a game at some of the colleges that have tailgaters and see if and where they camp.

RE: Any African American Families camping/Rving in Georgia?

GA_RVing, Can't answer your question and won't try to. And this is not directed at your post in any way but to put to words the way I feel. Some are taking everything out of context and I don't want to be one of those. I believe that this color thing has been played for way too long by both sides, although some more than others and more one sided than it should be. I say if you were born in America or have became a citizen then you are an AMERICAN and the color of your skin should not make any difference and you should be treated the same as everyone else with no special treatment. Fair is fair!

RE: loose grease caps again

Happening on one hub or all? If one, balance your tires. I have a 12K tandem trailer and this was happening a lot and loosing the dust caps. ried everything you mentioned. I was buying a bunch of dust caps but balancing the tires solved the problem.

RE: Buying a generator

Do you really need a 6500? Look at your needs. What are you using it for? If your using it for back up power, it's not big enough to run a central A/C but it will run a window unit and then of course so will a 3500. Most people go overboard on generators. I know, in the past I did too and used more fuel than I would have liked to. Sizing it correctly will save money.

RE: Another EXTERNAL Generator Question: Use Gas Siphon Pump?

The marine primer bulb only starts the siphoning. Once it starts, it simply passes through. No sucking on the tube with your mouth, and you don't get gas on your hands. will it continue to siphon thru with no restriction? my local wal-mart has those setups in their clearance baskets, don't know the price however. bumpy Yes the marine hose and bulb will allow the gas to free flow through the bulb. The bulb has 2 check valves in it to prevent backflow only. That's how it pumps up the gas.

RE: FEMA

My deductable is @ 5% for each named storm so if Ike would have hit the Baton Rouge area also then my deductable would have doubled to 10%.

RE: FEMA

FEMA reminds me of the bird feeders my wife had (before Gustav) in the trees in the back yard. As long as she kept them full, the birds only ate there, they stayed all day long and didn't go out finding food on thier own. Once the feeders were down and the birds figured out that the free food was gone, they left! FEMA has a great program for those that need the assistance. For others, FEMA is a bird feeder.

RE: Using RV generator for house power during power outage

I have a friend that works for the power company and on his advise, I "open" my main breaker and backfeed through the panel box. The main breaker acts as the disconnect switch. I limit what I run and have never had any problems. It makes it nice to be able to walk into a room and flip a switch to turn on a light. Is doing this recommended?............NO Is doing this illegal?................NO If done correctly, it is safe to do. The main drawback is that you have to either wire it into your panel box through an existing breaker or an extra breaker (safest way) or use a existing plug such as a dryer or stove plug and make a suicide cord (male plug on both ends) which is not recommended.

RE: 5er brakes actuated when emerg cable tangled in hitch

I had that same problem and solved it kind of like waitin'togo did except I used a stick on tie wrap holder and a tie wrap. I put the tie wrap loosly throught the holder and routed the break away cable through the tie wrap. If it does need to activate, it has enough slack to do so but so far, it has not been accidently activated yet and it's been on there over a year.

RE: Anyone know about Yamaha Gen 2800i Carburetor adjust

On the 2800 there may not be an adjustment. Having to run it 1/2 choked indicates that the main jet has some partial pluggage and the carb needs to be removed and cleaned.
